Baker must battle Jewell

October 19, 2002

— Baker University ranks No. 18 in NAIA football rushing defensive stats this week.

William Jewell has the No. 3-ranked rusher in the country in Jeff Bredemeier.

Something will have to give when long-time Heart of America Conference rivals Baker and Jewell tangle tonight as part of the Maple Leaf Festival.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Liston Stadium.

Baker (3-3) will be trying to bounce back from a 31-17 loss to Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. Two weeks ago, the Oklahomans spilled Jewell, 29-23, in Liberty, Mo.

William Jewell (2-4) is coming off a 16-6 victory against league foe Central Methodist. Three weeks ago, the Cardinals stunned Benedictine, 19-9, as Bredemeier, a junior from Lee's Summit, Mo., ran for 174 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Baker will be home again next week to tangle with MidAmerica Nazarene. Kickoff for the Wildcats' homecoming game will be 2 p.m.
