Gadsden’s season threatened by injury

Miami Dolphins receiver Oronde Gadsden might miss the rest of the season after spraining his left wrist last weekend against the Broncos.

He was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Buffalo.

Miami’s other starting receiver, Chris Chambers, has a concussion and also was listed as questionable Wednesday. As it is, the Dolphins will be forced to turn to a backup at quarterback, where Ray Lucas will replace Jay Fiedler, who has a broken thumb.

Dedric Ward and James McKnight would start for Gadsden and Chambers.

Falcons’ Vick proclaims he’s ready to start

Flowery Branch, Ga. The Atlanta Falcons proved they could win without Michael Vick. He doesn’t want them to make a habit of it.

Vick was back at practice Wednesday, saying his right shoulder feels fine and that he plans to be the starting quarterback against the Carolina Panthers.

“No pain. No pain. It’s good,” Vick said after a two-hour practice at the Falcons’ indoor facility. “There’s no doubt I should be able to start.”

Coach Dan Reeves was more guarded in his assessment, saying Vick remains questionable for Sunday’s game.

“It’s certainly a heck of an improvement over last week,” Reeves said. “The real key is how much soreness he has from today. He took a lot of reps.”

If Vick can’t start, Doug Johnson would get the assignment for the second week in a row.

Baltimore’s Lewis doubtful against Jags

Owings Mills, Md. Ray Lewis remains sidelined by a shoulder injury and could miss the Baltimore Ravens’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

The Pro Bowl linebacker partially separated his left shoulder on Oct. 6 against the Cleveland Browns. He sat out Baltimore’s 22-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week ending a run of 63 straight starts and was listed as doubtful Wednesday in the team’s injury report to the league.

“I don’t know if I can play this Sunday,” Lewis said. “I want to, but the doctors will let me know. My gut tells me that if I can play, it will be a game-day decision.”

The last thing the Ravens want to do is have their stellar middle linebacker further injure himself by returning prematurely.

“We don’t want to risk long-term ramifications,” coach Brian Billick said. “We’re going to be smart with this.”

Bills’ Bryson out with torn knee cartilage

Orchard Park, N.Y. Buffalo Bills running back Shawn Bryson will be sidelined indefinitely after having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee Wednesday.

Bryson, who missed his rookie season in 1999 with torn ligaments in the same knee, was injured in Sunday’s 31-24 win at Houston.

Bills coach Gregg Williams said tests revealed no ligament damage, and he didn’t expect Bryson to miss a significant amount of time.

Bryson, a backup running back for the Bills, has 35 yards on 13 carries this season.

Four men arrested for illegal betting

Tampa, Fla. Four men were arrested for running an illegal gambling site in a motor home across the street from Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fans were encouraged to open credit accounts with a Costa Rica-based gambling Web site, and the men were soliciting wagers ranging from $25 to $100,000 on Sunday, police said.

Undercover officers opened accounts, made bets and arrested the men.

Panthers’ Terry not at practice

Charlotte, N.C. Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Chris Terry was missing from practice Wednesday, and coach John Fox had no idea of the right tackle’s whereabouts.

“At this point, we’re still gathering information,” Fox said. “It might be miscommunication, but we’re still gathering information.”

Terry has a court hearing scheduled for next week on charges of assaulting his wife during an altercation at their home in July.

He has denied hitting his wife, but a protective order keeps him away from their home, school and day-care centers attended by their children.
