Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace, will hold its Kids Krusade from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at the church.

Eudora Assembly of God will be partnering with Calvary Temple for this event, which is for children 12-under.

There will be prizes, memory verses, Krusade Bucks and other activities. Parents need to be present to help support their children’s participation.

Calvary Temple’s annual Fall Festival at the Leroy Teichmann farm will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. There will be chili cooked over a cast-iron kettle on an open fire, singing and fellowship.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as well as hot dogs to roast.

Community Church of God

Preacher and evangelist Kevin G. Hall will lead a revival at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Community Church of God, 2300 Anderson Road.

The revival is open to the community.

East Lawrence Church of Christ

East Lawrence Church of Christ, 1919 E. 23rd St., is offering a free six-lesson Bible correspondence course. Upon finishing the course, each student will receive a completion certificate and a New Testament.

No previous training in Bible studies is necessary.

First United Methodist Church

A Children’s Sabbath, “Let the Little Children Come,” will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

Children will be participating in all the services, and Bibles will be presented to the third-graders at the 11 a.m. service.

The Rev. O. Wayne Turner, pastor of children’s ministries, will preach. His sermon title is “The ‘C’ Words.”

“Kid’s Rock,” First Methodist’s new children’s music program, begins Sunday at the church.

“Sunshine Singers” for preschoolers will start at 6:30 p.m., “Grace Notes” for first- through third-graders starts at 6 p.m. and “Xtreme Sound” for fourth- through sixth-graders starts at 6 p.m.

Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church

Dave Ellis and Mike Riley will be the featured speakers Sunday at the fourth annual homecoming celebration of Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church, 1601 N.H.

The event, which will start at 10:30 a.m., is for anyone who has ever attended the church.

Following the service, there will be a carry-in dinner. Ham and turkey and all the trimmings will be served.

Lone Star Church of the Brethren

The 52nd annual pancake and sausage supper will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the church, 883 E. 800 Road. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will have its annual fall bulb sale at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in the Mayflower Room. A variety of bulbs will be available, such as daffodils, tulips and others.

The sale, a fundraiser for the church, is open to the community.

Dylan Hilpman, a Kansas University freshman, will give the sermon at the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Hilpman, who sang the lead in the church’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” has participated in Plymouth’s contemporary services several times as a speaker and is directing one of the children’s choirs this year.

The church will also hold its Christian Education Open House at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, offering the community a chance to tour its classrooms and learn about the Rainbow Journey curriculum.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

Beginning the week of Oct. 20, in addition to Saturday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the rummage house also will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays.

St. John Rummage House is a project of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky. Funds that are raised go to support Catholic Social Services and the church’s social concerns board.

Rabbi Scott White of the Lawrence Jewish Community Center will speak at St. John’s adult education class from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Sunday. His talk is entitled “A Jewish View of Israel.”

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Trinity Stewardship Campaign, “A Year of New Beginnings,” will begin Sunday. Chuck Haverty, a member of the stewardship committee and treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will speak at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services about the stewardship responsibilities of all parishioners.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Children’s Sabbath Day observance will be Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. Both the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services will have a children’s focus with special music and prayers.

Bibles will also be presented to the congregation’s third-graders during the services.

Along with informational banners and posters, several local agencies that serve children and families will have representatives and displays in the church narthex.

National observance of Children’s Sabbaths is designed for people of all ages and faiths to learn about the urgent issues regarding children, with the goal of generating new, long-term efforts to meet children’s needs.

The Rev. Sherry Schultz’s eight-week series, “Make Me an Instrument,” which is based on the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, continues during the church’s 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Unitarian Fellowship

Janet Campbell, general manager of Kansas Public Radio formerly KANU will be the guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Her talk is entitled “KANU: Present and Future.”

West Side Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Robert Freitag, pastor emeritus of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive, will be filling the pulpit during 11 a.m. Sunday worship services in the absence of interim pastor, the Rev. Jay Gideon.

The focus of worship this week will be “Covenants of Community Life,” continuing the series leading up to Stewardship Sunday.
