Conference to examine landmark tribal law case

Participants in a tribal law conference this week at Kansas University will re-argue a landmark case that gave tribal governments the power to punish non-Indian defendants.

Experts on the 1978 case Oliphant v. Suquamish Indian Tribe will revisit the issues surrounding the case as part of the Tribal Law and Governance Conference today and Saturday.

The arguments will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the moot court in Green Hall.

About 50 people are expected to attend the conference. For more information on the conference, contact the KU School of Law at 864-9245.
