Old home town – 25 and 100 years ago today

IN 1977 – The gate-closing ceremony for Clinton Dam four miles west of Lawrence was set for Nov. 30. It would be the first step in impounding water for the 7,000-acre lake.

Lawrence residents were beginning to see the first impact of “electronic banking” but bankers and savings and loan officials said they were not worried by the prospect of computer theft.

IN 1902 – From the Lawrence Daily World of Nov. 11, 1902: “While there has been little public talk about the regency of the university, it is known that there has been considerable figuring. Gen. Metcalf, W.F. March and A.C. Mitchell are candidates for the place with several precincts to hear from.
