Rebecca May, a senior at Lawrence High School, received her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center. May helped compile a scrapbook commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Lawrence/Eutin, Germany, sister-city relationship. She has been a Girl Scout for 11 years.

While in Scouts, she has attended Day Camp, Camp Daisy and completed many service projects for the community.

May has participated in band, orchestra, choir, volleyball, soccer, Key Club, Bike Club, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Students while at LHS.

Mitzi Keel, a member of Girl Scout Troop 459, was presented the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center. To attain this accomplishment, Mitzi completed the requirements for four Interest Project Patches, earned the Senior Girl Scout Career Exploration pin, Senior Girl Scout Leadership Award and Senior Girl Scout Challenge. Keel’s Gold Award Project was compiling a scrapbook commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Lawrence/Eutin, Germany, sister-city relationship.

She has been in Girl Scouts since she was a first-grader at St. John’s School. As a Cadette Girl Scout, she earned the Silver Award. Keel also has earned the Spirit Alive Award, the religious recognition for Senior Girl Scouts by the Catholic Church.

Keel is a senior at Lawrence High School, where she is active in the marching band, symphonic band, a cappella choir and chorale. She is a member of Key Club and the National Honor Society.

She participated in Kansas History Day and was a sister-city exchange student in Eutin, Germany, during summer 2001. Keel is a newspaper carrier and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center.

Laura King, a member of Senior Girl Scout Troop 459, received her Gold Award Friday. She has been in Girl Scouts since first grade. She competed the highest honor in Girl Scouts with help from troop leader, Nancy Keel. King helped compile a Web site commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Lawrence/Eutin, Germany, sister-city relationship.

King is a senior at Lawrence High School, where she is active in the a cappella choir and chorale, marching band, symphonic band, Key Club and National Honor Society. She was named a National Merit Commended Scholar.

She also is a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church choir and Fellowship of Christian Students.

Boy Scout Troop 53 had a campout May 3-4 at a ranch near Baldwin. The Scouts concentrated on their camping merit badge. Scouts who attended were Chris Berger, Joey Berger, Nick Blessing, Max Cheatham, Patrick Coffey, Nick Haehl, Michael Hurtig, Jimmy Kelley, Jonathan King, Bob Larrabee, Adam Lignell, Evan Mielke, Tim Muetz, Julian Spangler, Chance Steele, Chaz Steele, Zach Stremel, Aaron Tilden, Casey Wagner, Jordan Yulich and Alex Zimmerschied. Adult leaders who participated were Ron Spangler, Kip Grosshans, Eric Muetz and Mitch Yulich.

Tiger Cubs from Cub Scout Pack 3051 visited the Sunflower Cablevision studio on May 9. Those who attended were Jamie Braden, Ian Gent, Mason Robinson, Christopher Sloan, Nicholas Crowe, William Thompson, Dante Tucker, Spencer Wilson, Johnathan Roberts, Dakota Zinn and Grant Stone.

Webelo’s from 3051 participated in Webelo Weekend May 10-12. Those who participated were Rich DiBenedetto, Austin Holladay, Jake Brown, Asher O’Connor, Tyler Gibson, William Gibson and Justin Stearn. Den chief Justin Deaver of Troop 52 attended, along with adult leaders Lisa DiBenedetto, Lisa Stice and Harold Aiken.

As a result of the spring membership drive the following boys have joined the Pack: Dakota Zinn, Grant Stone, Marcos Cortez, Casey Rangel and Austin Garner, Tigers; and Zack Curran, Wolf. New adult leadership includes Stephen Roberts, committee chairman, and Kim Aldrige and Keyane Tucker.

Boy Scouts and adults who helped with the Scouting for Food Drive in April were: Abe Sampson, Tanner Halc, Brian Loux, Jan Loux and Don Loux.
