Police reports

A 72-year-old Lawrence woman reported to Lawrence Police on Monday that her husband had found a dead bat in their garage. An animal control officer responded to the couple’s residence in the 1200 block of East 21st Street and took it to a local veterinary clinic, which then shipped it overnight to Kansas State University to be tested for rabies, Sgt. Paul Fellers said. On Tuesday, the animal control officer received notification that the bat had tested positive for the disease. Fellers said there were no reports that the bat had bitten any humans or pets.

Burglaries and thefts reported

A 10-month-old pit bull was taken sometime Monday afternoon or night from a residence in the 1100 block of Connecticut Street, a Lawrence Police report said. A 22-year-old Lawrence man said the dog had been removed from a kennel inside the house. No one was at the residence at the time. There was no sign of forced entry to the house. The dog was valued at $500.
