KIC names Lawrence resident president

McClorey to focus on high-tech growth

The Lawrence-based Kansas Innovation Corp. named area investment professional Matthew McClorey as its new president and CEO.

McClorey will take over leadership of the business development organization on June 3. McClorey, Lawrence, is vice president of business development and portfolio management for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp.

McClorey said he hopes to guide the corporation in a way that will allow the not-for-profit organization to become a major player in the development of high-tech businesses.

“By creating a strong partnership with KTEC, the city of Lawrence, Douglas County and the University of Kansas, KIC can play a crucial role in developing a base of successful high-technology companies in Lawrence,” McClorey said. “We look forward to serving the community and producing results that will further the growth of our local economy.”

The organization provides assistance to start-up businesses in northeast Kansas with issues such as strategic planning, market research, business plan writing and financial planning. KIC’s board of directors currently is searching for a new Lawrence facility that would allow the corporation to offer, low-cost or no-cost office space to high-tech businesses looking to get started in the area.

McClorey replaces Jeff Aholm who resigned as president and CEO approximately two months ago to accept a job in the private sector. Before coming to KTEC, McClorey was a senior consultant at Deloitte Consulting, where he advised companies such as Nextel, Sprint PCS and Lucent.

He was elected to the board of directors of the Lawrence Technology Assn. in January.

McClorey received his master’s degree in business administration and a law degree from Kansas University.
