FSHS soccer rolls, 10-0

? After scoring just one goal in 100 minutes against Lawrence High on Thursday night, Free State High found its offense on Friday night, blanking Topeka Highland Park, 10-0, in girls soccer.

“Coming off the emotional battle of the night before against the Chesty Lions,” FSHS coach Jason Pendleton said, “we felt fortunate to get a victory because it was an emotionally draining experience.”

Katy Vormehr led the Firebirds’ offensive onslaught with four goals and two assists. Michelle Garcia and Morgan Matthews added a pair of goals and an assist apiece. Meredith Mayo had a goal and two assists.

Alicia Sellon (first half) and Linsey Morningstar (second half) teamed in goal for the shutout.

Free State (5-8-2) will be the No. 6 seed for next week’s Class 6A regionals. The Firebirds will travel to face No. 3 Emporia on Tuesday.
