Event to celebrate famed segregation case

? The Brown v. Board 50th Anniversary Coalition will play host to the 48th anniversary celebration of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.

“Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement” will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, 600 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka.

The event will feature keynote speaker U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia with additional remarks by Carl Boyd, an author and speaker of Chandler, Ariz.

From 1963 to 1966, Lewis was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which he helped found. First elected to Atlanta City Council in 1981, he went on to be elected to Congress in November 1986. He wrote his first book, “Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement,” in 1988.
