Tornado spotted near McLouth

Lawrence area in flood watch until midnight

A major storm system passed through the Lawrence area Wednesday evening, bringing rain, high winds, hail and even a report of a tornado near McLouth.

A trained weather spotter reported a tornado northeast of McLouth in Leavenworth County about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Topeka reported. (See map of McLouth area.)
There have not yet been any reports of damage.

The forecast for Wednesday evening calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike through 9 p.m. A flood watch continues for the Lawrence area until midnight.

Douglas County was placed under a severe thunderstorm warning from about 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. as a front passed through. The county was under a tornado watch until shortly before 8 p.m.
