Luis Gonzalez adds to streak

? Arizona’s Luis Gonzalez kept the major leagues’ longest consecutive games streak alive with an eighth-inning appearance Friday night.

Mired in an 0-for-19 slump, Gonzalez was not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup against Montreal. But he doubled and extended his streak to 356 games as Arizona beat the Expos 6-3.

Gonzalez got into the game with two outs in the top of the eighth in a double switch along with closer Byung-Hyun Kim.

Manager Bob Brenly had said Gonzalez would make an appearance despite not starting in left field.

“I take a lot of pride in coming to the park ready to play,” Gonzalez said before the game. “I’m just thankful that he understands. He told me last night, ‘I want to see you continue to do this.’ That’s part of a good relationship with a manager, that he cares about stuff like that. Most managers would just say, ‘Hey, we’re just flat-out giving you the day off.”‘
