Three-on-Three League: Deadline to register for the Lawrence Hoopster Three-on-Three Summer Basketball League is May 9. The league is open to youths in kindergarten through eighth grade. Applications are available at Holcom Rec Center. For information, call Rick McNabb at 749-4664.

Southwest Girls Camp: Southwest Junior High’s girls basketball camp will be July 8-12 with sixth and seven graders in the mornings and eighth and ninth graders in the afternoon. For information, call David Schneider at 760-3261.

Baldwin Wrestlers: Kevin Callahan and Gabe Mason of Baldwin finished second and third respectively in their age and weight brackets at the Western Stars Freestyle Wrestling Tournament last Saturday in Blue Springs, Mo.

Shoffner Earns Gold: Brett Shoffner of Lawrence earned a first place in freestyle and a second place in Greco-Roman last Saturday at a wrestling tournament in Clay Center. Lawrence’s K.J. Siebert earned seconds in each category. Brandon Price had a second in freestyle and a fourth in Greco. Shawn Aikens placed fourth in each division.

Cycling Champs: Lawrence riders Chris Mefford, Stacey Lamer and Larry Spray earned age-group gold medals in the Heartland Mountain Bike Series races last weekend in Weston, Mo. Lawrence’s Gerard Arantowicz earned a second place.

Jensen Ice Gold: Erin Marie Jensen of Lawrence won the Freestyle 1 compulsories and free skating at the Midwest Odyssey figure skating meet last Saturday in Overland Park. Jensen, 9, was also second in the Freestyle 1 and 2 interpretive event.

Wisler Lifts Ruggers: Caitlin Wisler scored four tries to lead Kansas University’s women’s rugby team to a 47-7 win over KC Irish last Saturday. Sarah Ratzlaff had three tires and Julie Bridges and Katie Simpson scored one apiece. KU’s ruggers finished with a record of 6-2-1.

Vestal Fuels Force: Abby Vestal had six goals and two assists as Kaw Valley Force U-13 Premier girls soccer compiled a 2-1-2 record at a tournament last weekend in Emporia. Alysha Valencia added a goal and two assists, Maya Weil a goal and Gen Busby an assist. Daphne Tsatsoulis, Banaka Okwuone and Lucca Wang sparkled on defense.

Kane Double Eagle: Jim Kane, head pro at Eagle Bend Golf Course, used a driver and a 5-wood on Monday to record a rare double eagle on the 510-yard No. 9 hole at the city’s municipal course. Kane’s 5-wood traveled an estimated 225 yards into the cup. Witnesses were Mark Felder, David Wade and John Morris.

Free State Softball Camp: Free State High softball camp will run June 3-6. Students in third through sixth grades will meet mornings and students in seventh through 12th grades in the afternoon. For information, call Pam Pine at 832-6050 or 841-3921.

Gravino Honored: Illinois State’s Laura Gravino, a Free State High grad, has been named Missouri Valley Conference freshman tennis player of the year. Gravino was a state singles champion while with the Firebirds in 1999.

Double Winner: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the age-graded masters division of the Grace Race 5K on Saturday in Broken Arrow, OKla. On Sunday, Heitzman won the 70-74 division of the Trolley Run Four-Mile in Kansas City, Mo.

Holcom Deadline: Registration deadline is May 13 for youths ages 15-16 interested in the Holcom Baseball League. Tryouts are scheduled May 18-19. Registration forms are at the Holcom Rec Center. For information, call Brent Urban at 830-0626.
