Cochrane services

Topeka Services for Fredrick L. Cochrane, 80, Topeka, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Family of God Fellowship Church, Topeka. Burial with American Legion honors will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka.

Mr. Cochrane died Friday, March 29, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, after a long illness.

He was born May 20, 1921, in Chetopa, the son of Francis M. and Adda V. (Cauble) Cochran. He graduated from Chetopa High School in 1942.

Mr. Cochrane served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a building and grounds maintenance worker at the Topeka State Hospital, retiring in 1984 after 30 years. He also served as a volunteer Santa Claus at the Topeka State Hospital.

He was a member of Family of God Fellowship Church in Topeka, and American Legion Post No. 400 in North Topeka.

He married Gertrude Ileen Powell Myer Nov. 24, 1977, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include six sons, Fred Jr., Washington state, George, Topeka, Marion, Edgerton, James, Great Bend, Daniel, Hutchinson, and Lauren Myer, Topeka; eight daughters, Beverly Harriman, Hutchinson, Mary Bennett, Yakima, Wash., Ilene McKaig, Bucyrus, Nancy Masters, Topeka, Gail Jones, Kansas City, Kan., Erlene Woods, Topeka, Florene Doty, El Dorado, and Shirley Talbert, Bella Vista, Ark.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A stepson, Duward Thomas, died earlier.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Barnett's Meriden Funeral Chapel in Meriden or from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at God Fellowship Church in Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
