Boise State names former CU assistant head coach

? Boise State named Jen Warden its head women’s basketball coach on Tuesday.

Warden, a former assistant at Colorado, replaces Trisha Stevens, who resigned March 8 after six seasons.

“Her coaching experience and recruiting ties will lead to great things for our team,” Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier said. “I am confident that Jen will guide the women’s basketball program to great success.”

After Colorado lost to Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma 94-60 in the NCAA West Regional final at Boise State on Monday, head coach Ceal Barry wished Warden well.

“I’m excited for Jen. She’ll be a great head coach,” Barry said. “On the other hand, it hurts because I lose my best recruiter.”

It will be the first head-coaching position for the 31-year-old Warden, who played for CU.

“I believe this is a tremendous opportunity to build a strong women’s basketball program,” Warden said. “I look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Boise State finished 10-20 overall and 5-13 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Broncos lost to Louisiana Tech in the conference tournament.
