Church of God offers women's seminar

Community Church of God, 2300 Anderson Road, will offer a one-day women's seminar, "The Power of Your Words," at 9 a.m. today.

Lawrence Christian celebrates 10 years

Lawrence Christian Center, 1031 N.H., will celebrate its 10th anniversary during the 10 a.m. Sunday service.

The Rev. Lonnie Hilton of Faith Christian Fellowship International Church Inc. will present a plaque to the congregation for 10 years of affiliation with the group.

Indian Hills offers Good Friday service

A Good Friday service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Indian Hills Church of God, 601 W. 29th Terrace. The service will include a Last Supper re-enactment and candlelight communion.

Faith Builders offers Easter parade

Faith Builders International will present an Easter parade, "This Blood's For You," at 7 p.m. Friday in South Park, 11th and Massachusetts streets.

St. John's plays host to ecumenical services

Ecumenical Holy Week services will be offered at 12:05 p.m. Monday through Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky. A soup-and-sandwich meal will follow the service each day except Friday.

In addition to St. John's, sponsors are First Baptist Church, First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Peace Mennonite Church, Plymouth Congregational Church, Trinity Episcopal Church and Trinity Lutheran Church.

The St. John's junior high youth group will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church for prayer and pizza. Today is the registration deadline. Call Theresa at 838-3545.

Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. Sunday for the blessing of Lisa Bland's headstone.

Catholic singles plan game night

The Lawrence Catholic Adult Singles will gather for a potluck dinner and game night at 7 p.m. today in the parish hall at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

Lawrence Wesleyan slates Friend Day

Lawrence Wesleyan Church will celebrate Friend Day with a combined service at 10 a.m. Sunday in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 21st and Harper streets. Coffee and doughnuts will be served at 9 a.m.

The church plans a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 900 Madeline Lane, and an Easter egg hunt Saturday. For the egg hunt location, call 841-5446.

Catholic services offers workshop

Catholic Community Services will present a workshop, "Loving Presence and Centering Prayer," April 13, 20, 27 and May 4 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, 1631 Crescent Road. Sessions will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Calvary Temple plans palm processional

Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace, will celebrate Palm Sunday by distributing palm leaves to children at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The children will sing and new members will be received during the service.

Free Methodist sets Easter events

Lawrence Free Methodist Church, 3001 Lawrence Ave., will kick off its Easter celebration at 7 p.m. Friday with a Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday events on March 31 will include traditional worship at 9 a.m. The service will feature the Adult Choir, God's Kids and Kingdom Kids. A continental breakfast will be served at 10:15 a.m. in the Family Life Center with contemporary worship at 11:15 a.m.

Ottawa church sets fund-raiser

Ottawa Sacred Heart Church and School plans its annual spring fund-raiser from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. April 6 in the parish center, 408 S. Cedar.

Immanuel Lutheran offers Holy Week events

Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center, 2104 W. 15th St., will observe Maundy Thursday during services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

On Good Friday, the Lenten theme continues with "God's Promises Fulfilled" at noon and "Savior of the World" at 7:30 p.m.

Immanuel youth will serve an Easter breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 31 at the church. The Easter celebration, "All Doors Are Open," will be offered during services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

West Side observes Maundy Thursday

West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will have a traditional Maundy Thursday communion service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

During the service, Kathy Hagen and Jim Peterson will read from "Empty Spaces, Empty Places." The reading includes interviews with the Bethlehem innkeeper's widow and one of the centurions present at the death of Jesus.

St. Margaret's sets Holy Week events

St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will celebrate Palm Sunday with services at 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Maundy Thursday service and an Agape meal will be at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Good Friday events include Reflections at noon, Reflective Stations at 2 p.m. and a service with the choir at 7 p.m.

March 30 events include a Holy Saturday Service at 9 a.m. and a first Easter celebration at 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday services will be at 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. March 31.

Trinity Episcopal offers Holy Week events

The Palm Sunday service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the courtyard with the liturgy of the palms. The service continues with the procession of the palms into the church.

Maundy Thursday supper and service will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the parish hall.

Stations of the Cross will be read at noon on Good Friday. The 7 p.m. Good Friday service will include Holy Eucharist.

Good Shepherd plans palm processional

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2211 Inverness Drive, will celebrate Palm Sunday during its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service with a procession with palms and communion. Weather permitting, the procession will begin in the parking lot.

Maundy Thursday service with communion will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Way of the Cross Service will be at 7 p.m. on Good Friday.

Easter events on March 31 begin with a sunrise service with communion at 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The Easter egg hunt for children begins at 9:30 a.m. The Easter Cantata at 10:30 a.m. will include the Good Shepherd Choir, Children's Choir and Good Shepherd Orchestra performing "For God So Loved the World."

Unitarians focus on soul, service

The spiritual service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will focus on "Reinventing the Soul."

The topic for the 10:30 a.m. program is "Unitarian Universalist Service Committee Sunday."

First Baptist service features choirs

The Rev. Marcus W. McFaul will address "Jesus and Anger" during 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Palm Sunday services at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

The church's choir will join the choir from First Christian Church to present Douglas Wagner's "Hear Us, Holy Jesus" at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist.

A Maundy Thursday service with communion and foot-washing will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Easter Sunday services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. March 31 will include choirs, bells and brass anthems. McFaul will speak about "Dancing at the Light Dawn."

Trinity Lutheran sets Holy Week schedule

"The Challenge to Obey" is the theme for Palm Sunday, which opens Holy Week at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. The 8:30 a.m. Sunday service will begin with the procession of palms.

The church will welcome members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for coffee at 10:15 a.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall, followed by another blessing of palms with St. John's members at 10:45 a.m. in South Park. The second service follows the processional from South Park at 11 a.m.

Holy Week continues with the Maundy Thursday service, "The Challenge to Love," at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Good Friday service, "The Challenge to Let Go," will be at 7 p.m. Friday. A traditional vigil of Easter, "The Challenge to Hope," will be at 8:30 p.m. March 30.

Easter Sunday services on March 31 will be at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

FUMC schedules palm processional

Palm Sunday services at 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will include a palm processional. After the sermon "Where is the King?" is delivered by the Rev. Sharon Howell, the congregation will exit in silence.

The final "Wednesdays in Lent" program will feature a freewill-donation meal at 6 p.m. followed by small group Lenten studies and a 7:30 p.m. Taizervice.

A Maundy Thursday service with choir, prayer and communion will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Perry Methodist offers Holy Week events

Perry Perry United Methodist Church, 220 Oak St., will celebrate Palm Sunday with services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Christians in Action Youth will lead a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Thursday. A Good Friday service will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

Easter events on March 31 include an Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. in the sanctuary. The United Methodist Men will serve breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.

Nazarene service has Lenten focus

The Rev. Don Dunn will present the "Lenten Combo" at the 10:15 a.m. Sunday service at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

Clinton Parkway offers 'Lord's Supper'

The "Living Lord's Supper" will be presented at 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Sunday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway.

Corpus Christi sets Holy Week schedule

The last scheduled opportunity for confessions during Lent is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

Holy Thursday Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with adoration following until midnight. Friday events include morning prayer at 8:30 a.m., Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m. and Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m.

Morning prayer will be offered at 8:30 a.m. March 30, with an Easter vigil at 7:30 p.m. The 5:30 p.m. Mass and confessions are canceled.

Easter Sunday Masses will be at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. March 31.
