Orlando wins fifth game in row

Magic win sixth straight over Philadelphia, 105-103

? If Pat Garrity can hit a three-pointer, he can make a game-winning shot, too.

Garrity’s running jumper with 16.7 seconds left lifted the Orlando Magic to their sixth straight victory over the Philadelphia 76ers 105-103 on Sunday.

Orlando's Darrell Armstrong, left, battles Philadelphia's Allen Iverson for a loose ball. The Magic pulled a game and a half ahead of the 76ers with a 105-103 victory Sunday in Philadelphia.

It was the fifth straight victory for Orlando after four consecutive losses and moved the Magic 11/2 games ahead of Philadelphia for the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference.

The defending Eastern Conference champions have lost two straight after winning seven of eight.

Before Garrity’s 3, Orlando coach Doc Rivers asked him if he could hit one from beyond the arc.

“I thought it was a funny question,” said Garrity, who leads the team with a 41.9 shooting percentage from three-point range. “I said, ‘Yeah.’ So he drew up the play.”

Garrity wasn’t looking for a 3 to break the tie. He expected the Sixers to use their last foul.

“That wasn’t the play we drew up,” Garrity said. “But McGrady went one-on-one and my guy went over to double, and left me open. He flipped it back, I saw an open lane, put it on the floor and floated it up there.”

McGrady had 29 points and a career-high 13 assists, and Troy Hudson scored 19 off the bench for Orlando. Garrity scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half.

Allen Iverson had 39 points and 10 assists, and Eric Snow added 20 points for Philadelphia, which lost for the first time in 15 games when scoring more than 100 points this season.

Kings 116, Raptors 113

Toronto Chris Webber had 31 points and 15 rebounds, and Mike Bibby scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half.

Vince Carter, who finished with 22 points, fouled out with 3:07 remaining for the Raptors, who have lost 16 of their last 17 games. Toronto also has lost nine straight at home.

Doug Christie added 18 points for the Kings, including a three-point play that gave Sacramento a 113-109 lead with 25.3 seconds left. After Toronto’s Morris Peterson missed badly on three-point attempt, Webber made two free throws with 20.7 seconds remaining.

Pacers 85, Hawks 68

Indianapolis Reserve Austin Croshere scored 19 points, and Indiana limited Atlanta to a season-low point total.

The Pacers used a 9-2 run to take a 20-11 lead, and another 9-2 burst go in front 32-19 with 6:28 left in the first half. The Pacers won their fourth straight, their longest winning streak since late December, and got their most lopsided victory since beating the Los Angeles Clippers by 18 points Feb. 23.

Rookie Pau Gasol led the Grizzlies with 18 points and nine rebounds. Reserve Will Solomon scored 14 points in 18 minutes for Memphis, a loser of three straight and 12 of its last 14 games.

Jazz 96, Timberwolves 89

John Stockton added 22 points and eight assists for the Jazz, who broke a five-game losing streak against Minnesota.

Wally Szczerbiak led the Timberwolves with 33 points, Anthony Peeler added 17 and Kevin Garnett 16.

Cavaliers 104, Knicks 99

Cleveland Wesley Person scored 29 points to help Cleveland beat the New York.

The Cavaliers had dropped six of their previous eight games, including a 105-95 loss in New York on Saturday night.

Andre Miller had 23 points and 14 assists and Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 20 points.

Kurt Thomas scored a career-high 33 points for New York. Allan Houston added 20 points for the Knicks, seeking their first three-game winning streak since Don Chaney took over as coach in December.

Lakers 105, Mavericks 103

Los Angeles Shaquille O’Neal had 28 points and nine rebounds, and Robert Horry made two three-pointers in the final three minutes.

Horry had 19 points and eight rebounds; Rick Fox and Derek Fisher scored 16 each, and Kobe Bryant had 14 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists.

Michael Finley led the Mavericks with 21 points, but missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have given his team the victory.

The win was the fifth straight and 12th in 14 games for the Lakers (47-18), who remained tied with the Sacramento Kings for the NBA’s best record.
