West Side Presbyterian offers Lenten study

The Rev. Jay Gideon, interim pastor of West Side Presbyterian Church, will lead a Lenten study from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1024 Kasold Drive. The study incorporates the book “Behold His Cross” by Paul E. Stroble. The sessions will continue Palm Sunday, March 24.

West Side Presbyterian plans a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall to promote the “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering. The offering, to be collected on Easter Sunday, helps finance disaster assistance, hunger programs and self-development of people worldwide.

FUMC continues ‘Wednesdays in Lent’

“Wednesdays in Lent” continues this week at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

A freewill donation meal is served at 5 p.m. Small group Lenten studies begin at 6 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. Taizervice, which consists of music and silence for reflection and prayer.

Unitarian program features mayor

Lawrence Mayor Mike Rundle will discuss “My year as mayor and a look beyond” during the program from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Redeemer Lutheran offers egg hunt

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., plans its annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. March 23. Festivities for children in preschool through 10 years old will include an egg hunt, video, baby chicks and refreshments.

The church’s annual spring bake and craft sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23.

Singles to meet at Mustard Seed

Simply Singles will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive. The group is for singles 26 years and older.

Communion will be served during the 10 a.m. Sunday service.

Corpus Christi offers penance service

Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., will have its communal penance service at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The last scheduled opportunity for confessions during Lent is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 23.

Clinton Parkway Assembly sets event

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway, will serve its men’s fellowship breakfast at 8:30 a.m. today. The W.I.S.H. service for adults with mental and physical disabilities will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon today.

Calvary Temple honors missionaries

Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace, will honor missionaries during its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The service will also include communion.

Bishop Seabury headmaster to speak

Chris Carter, headmaster of Bishop Seabury Academy, will present the adult forum at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

The Rev. Grant Clowers will be the celebrant at both Sunday services; Deacon Carolyn Graham will preach.

Resurrection Run entries available

The third annual 5K Resurrection Run will be March 30 at Sunflower Elementary School, 2621 Inverness Drive.

K of C to serve St. John’s breakfasts

The Knights of Columbus will serve breakfast after all Sunday morning liturgies at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

A St. Patrick’s celebration is set for 6 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall.

The sacrament of reconciliation will be celebrated in a Lenten communal service at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Five confessors will be available.

Hesston Chorale to visit First Baptist

The Hesston College Chorale will present a miniconcert from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive. The 38-member choir will also participate in the 10:45 a.m. worship service.

The choir performs a variety of styles, ranging from Renaissance to contemporary and from spirituals to traditional hymns.

Mormon missionary to report on effort

Gregory Bowles, son of Greg and Pam Bowles of Baldwin, recently returned from a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission.

He will report on his mission at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Second Ward, 3615 W. 10th St.

Catholic singles plan dinner, games

The Lawrence Catholic Adult Singles will gather for a potluck dinner and games at 7 tonight in the parish hall at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

Topeka choir presents ‘Requiem’

The program begins at 6 p.m. with eucharist in the chapel.

The Rev. Michael Kerr leads Holden evening prayer at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary followed by a sermon-study.

Because of spring break, there will be no supper or children’s activities. Child care is provided.

Salvation Army slates guest speaker

The Salvation Army, 946 N.H., presents special guests Majs. Russell and Jan Sjogren during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
