Lecompton to select city council members

Monday is the voter registration deadline for Lecompton residents who want a say in who will sit on their city council the next two years.

The April 2 election will fill three open seats on the five-member council. With only two names on the ballot, a write-in candidate is sure to snag one of the spots.

Incumbent council member Cynthia Treaster is up for re-election. Nick Fergus is on the ballot for the first time. Neither candidate could be reached for comment Friday.

Eligible voters can register at the Douglas County Courthouse or at any other registration site in the county. In Lecompton, those sites include Kroeger’s Country Meats and City Hall.

Jo Dalquest, deputy county clerk, said about 310 Lecompton residents had registered as of Friday.

Advanced voting began Wednesday and ends at noon the day before the election. People who wish to vote in advance can do so at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Voting on election day will take place at the Lecompton Community Building, 333 Elmore St.
