She was born March 5, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Jane S. van Meter and Charlton J.K. Hinman. She attended Lawrence schools from eighth grade until she graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Kan., in 1965.

Ms. van Meter Hinman graduated from the University of Arkansas and had a long career in the Arkansas mental health community. Most recently, she was utilization management director for Birch Tree Communities Inc. of Benton. During her more than 10 years with Birch, she also served as primary therapist and branch clinical director.

Throughout her career of more than 30 years, Ms. van Meter Hinman authored some 100 papers and articles presented to and published by professional organizations across the country. She served as a member, secretary and chairwoman of the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Psychology and has been recognized in the World’s Who’s Who Women, International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, National Distinguished Service Registry and the New York Academy of Sciences, among others.
