Charles Laverne Colson

Overbrook Memorial services for Charles Laverne Colson, 64, formerly of Overbrook, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Overbrook. Cremation and private burial are planned.

Mr. Colson died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his winter home in San Juan, Tex.

He was born Feb. 26, 1937, in Butler, Mo., the son of Glenn and Winnie (Moles) Colson.

Mr. Colson served in the Army and retired in 1993 from the General Motors plant in Kansas City, Mo. Since his retirement, he had wintered in San Juan and spent the summer months in Overbrook and the Des Moines, Iowa, area.

He married Nellie Eslick on Oct. 6, 1959, in Lawrence. They later divorced. He then married Wanda Colson three years ago. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include Wanda Colson’s four children, all of San Juan; a daughter, Cyndi Penner, DeSoto; two sisters, Louise Wells, Overbrook, and Barbara Young, Elgin, Ore.; two brothers, Lawrence Colson, Overbrook, and Kenneth Colson, Olathe; five grandchildren; and 19 stepgrandchildren.

A son, Douglas, died in 1991.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of First Security Bank, 312 Maple St., Overbrook, 66524. Memorials also may be sent to the Douglas Colson Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Wyandotte Christian Church, 13700 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. 66109.
