A Lawrence Police officer who responded to a report of a possible sexual battery was himself battered by a Lawrence man Thursday evening. The officer was called around 5:40 p.m. to the corner of Seventh and Kentucky streets, where he found a 41-year-old man and a Lawrence woman in her 20s, Sgt. Paul Fellers said. The officer attempted to question the man, who became belligerent, grabbed the officer’s arm and tried to pull him to the ground, Fellers said. The officer arrested the man, who then kicked the inside of the officer’s patrol car door and tried to spit on the officer, Fellers said. The man was booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. The officer was not injured.

Burglaries and thefts reported

 Several rings and jewelry items were taken Feb. 10 from a residence in the 2500 block of Jasu Drive, a 58-year-old Lawrence woman reported to Lawrence Police recently. Police said they have a suspect who had access to the residence. No arrest has been made. Losses were listed at $5,100.
