Jacob P. Pottorf

? Services for Jacob P. Pottorf, 19, Oskaloosa, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial with National Guard and American Legion honors will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.

Mr. Pottorf died Friday, June 28, 2002, at the scene of a two-vehicle accident three miles south of Oskaloosa on U.S. Highway 59.

He was born Nov. 3, 1982, in Lawrence, the son of David M. and Robin F. (Crawford) Pottorf. He had lived in Oskaloosa since birth. He attended Oskaloosa public schools, where he played football and participated in band. He played trumpet for the All State Kansas Band for the Shrine Bowl in 1998.

Mr. Pottorf was working as assistant to the chief fish biologist for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. He was a corporal specialist in the Kansas National Guard, where he was trained as a combat medic. He was a certified emergency medical technician.

He was a member of the Oskaloosa Township Fire Department since 1998 and served in the department’s Explorers training program. He was also a bugler for American Legion Post No. 36 in Oskaloosa for three years. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his parents, Oskaloosa; paternal grandparents, Marlin “Bud” and Julianne Pottorf, Oskaloosa; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Cora and LeRoy Bender, Oskaloosa; and maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Willis and Judy Crawford; Oskaloosa.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
