Geraldine L. Townsend

Services for Geraldine L. Townsend, 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kirwin Cemetery.

Ms. Townsend died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born July 20, 1919, in Kirwin, the daughter of Frank and Rhetta (Klontz) Townsend. She had formerly lived in St. Louis and later Eureka Springs, Ark., from 1971 to 1990, before she moved to Lawrence. She graduated from Fort Hays State University and worked toward her master’s degree at Wichita State University.

Ms. Townsend was an elementary primary teacher in Kansas and Missouri. She also was an elementary supervisor in the Chesterfield school district in St. Louis County, Mo. She retired in 1971.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers society, and also was active in several other professional teachers organizations. She also was a member of Lone Star Bible Church, Eureka Springs, Ark., and Eureka Springs Historical Society.

Survivors include a brother, Warren Townsend, Leoti.
