Manning waived by Dallas

? Former Kansas University All-American Danny Manning, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, was waived Monday by the Dallas Mavericks.

Manning, 36, signed as a free agent by the Mavericks in August, played in 41 games, averaging 4.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.5 minutes last season.

He wasn’t on the team’s postseason roster after being placed on injured reserve the last 23 games at the end of the regular season.

Manning said he is seeking a new team and told the Journal-World he definitely wants to play one or two more seasons.

“Danny wanted an opportunity to play more than he would have been able to on the Mavs, so his agent requested that we waive him so that he could catch on with another team,” Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban told the J-W. “Out of respect for Danny, we honored the request.”
