Club news

Town and County Republican Women will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt. Guests are welcome, and refreshments will be served. Chris Miller will give the program on precinct filings for the Aug. 6 primary. The club will auction an elephant collection donated by the late Bernice Todd.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s June 17 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North-South winners were Dave Piro and Donna Johnson, followed by James Gunn and Harry Shaffer. Steven Goodman and Elizabeth Nice placed third, followed by Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn. Clyde Romer and Bobbie Figgins placed second in the B session. Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler won the C session.

The East-West winners were Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd, followed by Christie Thomas and David Rhea. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee placed third, followed by Ilse Steinhardt and Russell LaForce. Virginia Seaver and Chuck Hedges placed fifth.

The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club’s June 12 game was stratified, used the Howell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman. The winners were Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth, followed by Bill Hamilton and Barb Hamilton. Artie Shaw and Harriet Olson took third, and Bob Huffman and Helen Huffman placed fourth. Winners in B Strata were Artie Shaw and Harriet Olson, followed by Bob and Helen Huffman. Julie Ward and Betty Spalsbury finished third. Lynn Hui and Jo Abbott won the C Strata.

The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge game of June 14 was stratified and used the Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game. North South winners were Jim Gunn and Harry Shaffer, followed by Chris Lane and Madelyn Jenks. Mildred Linley and Patt Radford placed third. Chris Lane and Madelyn Jenks finished first in B Strata, and Kendall Wolf placed first in C Strata.

East West winners were Betty Collier and Lois Clark in A, B and C Stratas. Wanda Durbin and Julia Brooks finished second in the A Strata.

The University Bridge Club recently elected officers for the coming year. The new officers are Karmie Galle, president; Tom Waller, vice president, Don Whitaker, secretary; and Ed Stellmacher, treasurer. New board members are Dale Kring and Mona Langlois. Other board members are Freddie Nelson, Isabelle Schaake, Phil Hawley and Lois Liebert.
