David Nieto, a sixth-grader at Prairie Park School, recently won second place in the jewelry category for ages 9-12 at the Red Earth Art Competition in Oklahoma City, Okla. His entry was a sterling silver and lapis stone bracelet.

Red Earth is one of the largest American Indian art shows in the country.

In May, David donated a carved Kansas limestone piece to Prairie Park School. The stone shows a bobcat face with three bobcat paw prints and is inscribed with the schools’ name. The work will be displayed at the entrance of the school.

In addition, David and his brother, Thomas, an eighth-grader at Central Junior High School, recently won the boys 14 and under doubles championship at the North American Indian Tennis Assn. tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. Thomas finished second in the boys 14 and under singles, while David finished third.
