Sox put Alomar on DL

Chicago Chicago White Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. went on the disabled list with a sore shoulder Wednesday night, his 10th trip to the DL in a 13-year career. The White Sox recalled catcher Josh Paul from Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago optioned right-hander Matt Ginter to Charlotte and will call up infielder/outfielder Willie Harris before Friday’s game against the crosstown rival Cubs.

Two injured by explosion at Cleveland game

Cleveland Three men remained in jail Wednesday, pending possible charges, while investigators tried to determine what sort of explosive was set off Tuesday at Jacobs Field. Police believe it was a large firecracker thrown from the upper deck during the Cleveland Indians’ game against the Phillies, burning two people.

Three men in their early 20s from Elyria, about 40 miles west of Cleveland, where held for questioning. Fire Lt. Clayton Cunningham said investigators want to be sure what was set off before deciding what to do about charges.

One of the injured, identified as Judy Knight, was treated for superficial burns at MetroHealth Medical Center and then released. The other injury was suffered by Brian Burke, an usher.
