Lawrence school district hires first information resources specialist

Nancy Horner, library media chair for the Arkansas City school district, is coming to Lawrence to be the district’s first information resources specialist.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to join this superb group of educators and to become part of the beautiful and vibrant community of Lawrence,” she said.

Her responsibilities will include library programs and policies, technology budgets and staff technology training. She’ll also help with district curriculum development.

“I like to keep my fingers … in a lot of pies,” Horner said.

Horner replaces Beth Welsh, who retired in May after eight years as the Lawrence district’s coordinator of library media services.

Since 1989, Horner has supervised 10 libraries in the Arkansas City district. She’s been an adjunct faculty member at Cowley County Community College for 10 years.

Other work experience: Wichita public libraries, 1987 to 1988; Cowley County Special Services Cooperative, 1982 to 1987; Arkansas City library, 1980 to 1982; Oregon State University libraries, 1979 to 1980, University of Oregon libraries, 1969 to 1973.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature at Oregon State and a master’s of library and information science at Emporia State University.
