Wildflower Walk slated at Akin Prairie

Kansas Land Trust will conduct its annual Wildflower Walk at 1 p.m. Saturday at Akin Prairie, east of Lawrence. Kelly Kindscher will lead the walk.

Wildflowers expected to be seen include prairie rose, purple coneflower, butterfly milkweed, leadplant, purple prairie clover, coreopsis, pale-spike lobelia and prairie phlox.

Walkers should bring water and wear sturdy shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen and a hat.

To find Akin Prairie, go east of Lawrence on Kansas Highway 10 and turn south on Douglas County Road 1057.

Go 2 miles and turn west on 150 Road.

Go about 1/4 mile; gate to prairie is on the south side of the road.
