Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, had its last pack meeting of the 2001-2002 school year on May 22 at Dad Perry Park. Boys were advanced in rank, ate pizza and flew kites. Cub Scouts present were Calvin Abbott, Jamie Braden, Maxwell Butterfield, Nicholas Crowe, Zach Curran, Rich DiBenedetto, Austin Garner, Ian Gent, Tyler Gibson, Willy Gibson, Brian Loux, Trevor Norris, Asher O’Connor, Johnathan Roberts, Mason Robinson, Mikey Robinson, Dylan Sauer, Christopher Sloan, Justin Stearns, Damon Stephens, Grant Stone, Thomas Thompson, William Thompson, Dante Tucker, Spencer Wilson and Dakota Zinn.

The pack had its annual fishing derby June 1 at Douglas County State Lake. Scouts present were Calvin Abbott, Jamie Braden, Nicholas Crowe, Zach Curran, Tyler Gibson, Willy Gibson, Johnathan Roberts, Mason Robinson, Mikey Robinson, Justin Stearns, Damon Stephens, Thomas Thompson, William Thompson and Spencer Wilson.

William Thompson won the prize for catching the most fish, while Calvin Abbott and Mikey Robinson tied for second and third. Christopher Crowe was in charge of the event.

Cub Scout Pack 3059, chartered to Lawrence First Presbyterian Church, had a family campout May 31 through June 1 at Camp Bromelsick. More than 30 family members attended. Ralph Clement gave a presentation about the history of Camp Bromelsick. Mike Chapman gave a basic orienteering program using maps and compasses. The pack is planning another family campout in late September.

Curtis Barnhill, of the Pelathe District, has stepped down as venturing chairman to the Heart of America Council and as the Council’s VOA advisor after serving nearly four years. Barnhill will continue as advisor to Crew 2055 of Lawrence and as an assistant district commissioner for venturing in the Pelathe District.

The Tribe of Mic-O-Say had its annual feast May 31-June 1 at Camp Bartle. The following Scouts attended from Pelathe District: Tom Sheely, Tom Volek, Keith Wood, Melanie Volek, Tripp Anderson, Curtis Harris and Frank Wright. Tom Volek’s late father, Frank, was remembered in the Dog Soldier Medicine Wheel ceremony. Tom and Melanie Volek were recognized for becoming new Lifetime Dog Soldiers of the Tribe. The tribe of the Mic-O-Say is a camping society located at Camp Bartle.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church, has announced 14 boys and five adults attended the Order of the Arrow Induction May 17-18 at Camp Naish. The new Ordeal members in the Order of the Arrow were Scott Hird, Logan Marienau, Kevin Willmott, Andrew Sigler, Bryce Baringer, Austin Winn, and Ben Vogel. New adult Ordeal members were Laurie Marienau and Becky Willmott.

Advancing to Brotherhood status were Willie Frick, Micah Clark, Bryant Denning, Tyler Pippert, Travis Andregg and Grady Walker. Adult leaders advancing to Brotherhood were John Frick and Don Clancy. Deb Vannicola and her son, Jason, were awarded the Coup of the Far Traveler.
