Parishioners to offer prayers for healing

As spiritual support to the bishops meeting Wednesday through June 15 in Dallas to discuss policies responding to the sexual crises in the Catholic Church, St. John the Evangelist parishioners will pray for the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be at 8 a.m. Thursday at the church, 1234 Ky., and will continue until 8 p.m. A prayer service for reconciliation and healing will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

The Parish Activities Committee’s Picnics in the Park will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday across from the Simon Parish Center, 1229 Vt. Drinks, napkins, plates, plastic ware and cups are provided. Bring food to share.

Bible school built around bug theme

Bug Safari Bible School will be Sunday through Friday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. The three-hour class will explore nature’s beautiful bugs and the buzz about God’s love.

The class begins at 5:30 p.m., with a snack supper and lessons based on 1 Samuel.

Small Groups Program still accepting members

Enrollment is still being taken in the Small Groups Program at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The Facilities Team and the Vestry Team will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. A Eucharist and Healing Service will be at noon Thursday, with a lunch and book discussion afterward.

Guest celebrant slated at Trinity Episcopal

The Rev. Grant Clowers, guest celebrant, and Deacon Dick Tracy will speak at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. The Chorister Choir will sing at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Chorister and Canterbury Choir rehearsal times have changed to Sunday afternoon. Handbell Choir will rehearse at 4 p.m.; the Canterbury Choir at 4:30 p.m.; and Choristers at 5 p.m.

CARE director to talk at Assembly of God

Duane Skjverum, ministries director for CARE Ministries International in Overland Park, will speak at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway.

Skjverum created and developed FOCAS, a ministry to single adults. He also has developed methods on how to place people into ministry to enhance retention of first-time guests. He travels throughout the United States ministering to all faiths.

Reception to honor new seminarian

Katy Grinberg, Lawrence, will be commissioned as seminarian at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church ELCA, 2211 Inverness Drive.

Grinberg will attend Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, Calif. A reception for Grinberg will be after the commissioning service. A collection will be taken to help offset her educational expenses.

Bug Safari, a Vacation Bible School for children in grades 1-5, will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 15-19 at the church. Little Lambs Bible School for preschoolers and kindergarten students is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 22-26.

Nazarene church planning Bible school

Son Canyon Vacation Bible School will be from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 17-21 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road. The school is for children ages 4 through sixth grade.

The Crossview Gospel Quartet will perform at 6:30 p.m. June 21 at Fifth and Main streets in Wellsville.

An OASIS family supper is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with Bible study and activity groups for all ages at 7 p.m.

Potluck dinner marks church’s past, future

West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will have an all-church potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The program will focus on the church’s history and future.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service. The Rev. Jay Gideon will talk on “What We Can Learn from Miracles.”

Vacation Church School at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. June 24-28. The theme will be “Son Canyon River Adventure,” and will be for ages 4 through sixth grade.
