4-H and FCE news

The Kanwaka 4-H Club met May 7 at Kanwaka Hall with Scott Bronoski presiding. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite summer activity. Shon Price led the club in singing “Down By the Banks.” The club decided to sponsor a blood drive on June 24. Members were reminded that the pre-entry deadline for the Douglas County Free Fair is June 30. The program was a craft project for Mother’s Day. The Dray family were hosts for the meeting. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. June 4 at Kanwaka Hall.

Stull FCE will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Deal Six Auditorium. The lesson will be “A Flash in the Pan.” Members who need a ride should meet at 5:15 p.m. at the home of Catherine Nichols.

The Meadowlark 4-H Club met May 22 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Members made tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program and were served pizza in honor of the graduating high school seniors.

Samie Milligan presided during the business meeting. Members answered roll call by naming what kind of shampoo they use. Jamie Morgison led the club in singing “Happy Birthday” to Jeremy Long, who celebrated a May birthday.

Dennis Mersmann, Benet Magnuson, Darianne Hicks and Rose Heckler, all graduating seniors, received scholarships from the club. Karen Pendleton read a poem about each of the honorees. Samie Milligan, Liz Pendleton and Michael Hicks gave speeches about the graduates. Karen Pendleton recognized all the members by telling of a special honor each had received.

Carl Magnuson, Blake Fox and Jonathan Fox were introduced as guests.

Members were urged to sign up for horticulture camp, which will be in July. Campers were given $50 for camp fees. Dates for food project meetings at the Miller’s home are 4 p.m. June 2; 7 p.m. July 7; and 4 p.m. July 14.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 11 at the Pendletons’ home. Members will make tray favors for Meals On Wheels at 6:30 p.m.
