City team to play for U-8 national title

Liberty, Mo. Lawrence DCABA All-Stars will be playing for the championship of the under-8 Hap Dumont World Series at 9 a.m. today.

The All-Stars, unbeaten in the winners bracket, will play a North Kansas City team. If the All-Stars lose, a second game will be necessary to determine the national champion.

Cactus eliminated

Roswell, Ga. Lawrence’s Cactus suffered a season-ending defeat at the hands of the Mississippi Rebels, 9-2, on Monday at the NBC 10-under World Series. Matt Montes de Oca was 3-for-3, Drew Branstrom went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Harrison Scheib was 1-for-1 with a run scored for the Cactus (15-7).

Lawrence represented in Legion All-Star game

Emporia Derek Holland of Lawrence’s Mavericks drew a walk and scored the West’s first run in a 10-4 victory over the East in the American Legion Class A All-Star game on Tuesday night.

Holland allowed no hits in one inning on the mound. Jake Hoover of Lawrence’s Bandits pitched two innings for the East and gave up no runs on no hits.
