DETROIT ? Any pitching performance could be Mark Redman’s last for the Tigers, so he made Tuesday night’s effort an impressive one.

Redman gave up four hits in eight innings as Detroit snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating the Kansas City Royals 10-1.

Wendell Magee added four RBIs as the Tigers set season highs for runs and hits.

Magee, Randall Simon, Shane Halter and Brandon Inge all had three of Detroit’s 19 hits.

Kansas City lost for only the second time in 12 games. Raul Ibanez singled home the Royals’ lone run in the seventh, giving him 17 RBIs in 10 games.

Earlier in the day, the Tigers traded pitcher Brian Moehler to Cincinnati in a five-player deal. He had made only three starts this season in a comeback from major shoulder surgery.

The deal marked the second time this month that the Tigers have traded away a starting pitcher. Ace Jeff Weaver went to the New York Yankees on July 6 in a three-team swap.

“At this point, I may be putting myself in that same position,” said Redman.

Redman (6-9) walked none and struck out six. After allowing a two-out single to Joe Randa in the first inning, Redman retired 16 straight batters before Carlos Beltran led off the seventh with a triple.

“He was throwing strikes, he was throwing pitches using both sides of the plate. Inside, outside,” Beltran said.

In his last 12 starts, the left-hander is 6-4 with a 2.23 ERA.

“He’s been pitching good the last four or five outings,” said Magee. “He’s been dealing, but he hasn’t gotten any run support.”

Jeff Suppan (8-8) took the loss, giving up nine runs and 14 hits in 51/3 innings.

“Suppan made some good pitches, they just hit the ball good,” said Kansas City manager Tony Pena. “He didn’t hit the right spot. Sometimes, that’s the way it goes.”

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Robert Fick led off with a walk and Carlos Pena singled. After Halter sacrificed, one run scored on a wild pitch and Magee had an RBI single.

Detroit smacked six straight hits with two outs in the third to score four more times. Pena singled in a run, Halter doubled in another and Magee had a two-run double.

“Six hits in a row,” Suppan said. “That wasn’t a very effective job.”

Inge’s two-out triple made in 7-0 in the fifth, but he was thrown out at home trying to stretch it into an inside-the-park homer.

Royals left fielder Chuck Knoblauch couldn’t catch up with Inge’s drive to deep left-center that hit off the base of the wall. Beltran came over from center to retrieve the ball, and shortstop Neifi Perez’s relay home beat Inge by about 15 feet.

Simon tripled in two runs in the sixth to make the score 9-0. Magee singled home a run in the seventh.

“If you want to lose a game, this is the way I like to lose it,” Pena said. “That didn’t hurt that much, like when you lose a game by one run.”

Notes: Detroit SS Ramon Santiago left in the third inning because of pain in his right wrist.
