Downtown meters robbed

About $1,500 was taken sometime last week from several parking meters in the downtown area, Lawrence Police said.

The incident was discovered Wednesday when a maintenance worker checked the meters, according to a police report. The meters were from the 600 to 1000 blocks of Massachusetts Street and in three city parking lots, police said.

The meters were not damaged, and police were trying to determine how the money was removed.

Last summer, downtown parking meters were periodically targeted by a thief. No one was arrested.
