Lawrence school board

Bottom Line

The board will approve for publication a notice of budget hearing after Kathy Johnson, the district’s division director of finance, presents the proposed 2002-2003 budget. The budget hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at district headquarters.

Background

The proposed budget for 2002-2003 is $90,797,653, up $4,672,405 from actual expenditures in 2001-2002. The apparent increase may not be a reflection of what actually will be spent. What the board is approving is the maximum budget authorized for each of the budgeted funds. The mill levy would be reduced under the new budget, dropping from 55.342 last year to 49.980 this year.
