WNBA Roundup: Ex-Jayhawk Dixon scores 20 for L.A.

Miami works overtime for 65-61 victory against Storm

? Tamecka Dixon scored 20 points and the Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Utah Starzz, 102-75, Sunday night for their second blowout victory in three days.

Dixon, a Kansas University product, did most of her damage at the start of the second half, scoring 10 of the Sparks’ first 17 points as they took a 69-48 lead.

Mwadi Mabika and DeLisha Milton added 17 points each as all 11 Sparks played. They tied the franchise record for most points, which also came against Utah in a 102-70 victory on June 28, 1999.

Lisa Leslie, who on Sunday was announced as the Western Conference’s starting center for the July 15 WNBA All-Star game, picked up her fifth foul and left the game with 11:40 remaining. She finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Leslie, who turned 30 Sunday, has been bothered by a flulike ailment for 21/2 weeks. She has complained of feeling tired and weak at times.

The Sparks were coming off an 87-56 victory against Sacramento on Friday at Staples Center, and they had it just as easy against the Starzz.

Sol 65, Storm 61

Miami Betty Lennox scored 19 points and Pollyanna Johns Kimbrough had four of her 10 in overtime as the Miami Sol beat the Seattle Storm. Miami finished the game on a 18-8 run, including eight straight points by Sheri Sam late in regulation. Sam finished with 13 points for Miami (6-10), which is 4-0 all-time against Seattle.

Fire 74, Monarchs 59

Portland, Ore. DeMya Walker scored 15 points as the Portland Fire extended their team-record winning streak to six games with a victory over the Sacramento Monarchs.
