Museum seeks volunteers

Watkins Community Museum of History needs volunteers to complete a variety of tasks.

Several volunteers are needed to serve as substitute front door docents. Two people are needed for data entry and cataloging three-dimensional items and photographs. Other volunteers are needed to volunteer in the library.

The museum is also looking for someone to help with sewing period clothing for the children’s hands-on history program.

Volunteers should be at least high-school age and should call Jean Ellermeier for an application.

Last week’s results

Mary Lee, coordinator of the Crosstown Unity Run, said she had only signed up two volunteers. Lee said the event needed about 100 people to run the event. Immediate volunteer needs

Eryn Wright-VanderZwaag, volunteer coordinator at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, is looking for adult volunteers 18 and older. The program provides simple friendship for someone receiving mental health services. These positions require a minimum of four hours a month and a year commitment. Kim Tinsley, executive director of Meals on Wheels, reported that she had a good response to the “How You Can Help” article in the Lawrence Journal-World. The organization now is desperately in need of a fax machine. If you have one in working order to donate, call Tinsley at 979-1440.
