Planning commission

Old West seeks old-home protections

Bottom Line

Commissioners will consider Old West Lawrence’s request that the western part of the neighborhood be rezoned from duplex to single-family use.

Background

Neighborhood residents say the duplex zoning gives property owners incentive to tear down historic homes and replace them with duplexes that can generate more rent revenues. The change to single-family zoning, advocates say, will make it easier to preserve old homes.
