James McDaniels

? Services for James “Cree” McDaniels, 93, Baldwin, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. McDaniels died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1908 in Jackson County, Mo., the son of Joseph Newton and Eva May (Selvy) McDaniels. He grew up in Jackson County and attended schools in the Independence, Mo., area. He then helped his parents on the family farm in Jackson County.

After his marriage in 1930, he lived in the Olathe area where he farmed and worked construction. He lived in numerous towns in eastern Kansas and in the Jackson County area. He then moved to the Gardner area before purchasing a farm 3 miles south of Baldwin in 1953. In the mid-1980s, he retired from farming and moved to Baldwin.

He married Elmira J. Hermon on Oct. 15, 1930, in Olathe. She died March 3, 1993. On Aug. 12, 1995, he married Faye Keeler in Baldwin City. She died Dec. 31, 1999.

Survivors include four sons, Paul, Ottawa, Frederick, Haysville, James Jr., Baldwin, and Charles, Ottawa; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Doris Jean McDaniels, in 1973; and a grandson, Rick McDaniels.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
