Falcons flatten Lions – Olathe South girls 49, LHS 41

? Lawrence High’s girls suffered through offensive woes in a 49-41 loss to Olathe South on Friday.

“We struggled shooting the ball tonight,” LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. “We didn’t shoot the ball well although I thought we were taking good shots, and when you can’t put the ball in the whole it makes for a difficult evening.”

The Lions (6-11 overall, 2-7 Sunflower League) trailed 22-16 at halftime and 32-26 after three periods, but couldn’t pull off the comeback.

Lawrence trailed by just six in the fourth quarter, but Olathe South (12-6, 4-4) hit a three-pointer on an inbounds play to extend its lead.

“I felt like our girls continued to fight,” Mallory said. “I thought our girls showed a lot of heart in this one but we’ve got to turn the corner and put the ball in the hole.”

The Lions will play host to Free State on Monday.
