Arthur and Christina Hess, Lawrence, announce the adoption of their daughter, Lauren Kathleen Akia, born Jan. 1, 2001, in Calcutta, India. She arrived home on June 4, 2001, and became a U.S. citizen on Jan. 24, 2002.

Raymond Pearson, Baldwin, celebrated his 97th birthday Tuesday. Pearson is a lifelong resident of the Baldwin area. He was a farmer. His children are Ralph and Marja Pearson, Baldwin, and Elton and Mary Haid, Lawrence. He has three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A black polled Gelbvieh bull bred and raised by Dave and Cindy Judd, Pomona, was proclaimed National Champion Bull at the American Gelbvieh Assn.’s National Show. The show was held in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show, Denver.

Will Krebs, Oskaloosa, has been awarded the Board of Governors Scholar Award from Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Krebs.
