Washington ? Michael Jordan said Popeye Jones could take his place in the All-Star game.

Jones certainly put up All-Star numbers Thursday against the team with the best record in the league.

Jones made all eight of his shots from the field and finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds as Washington sailed into the All-Star break with its biggest surprise yet, a 108-101 victory over Sacramento.

“Popeye is our unsung hero,” coach Doug Collins said. “We know who he is. Every night he battles bigger, stronger, quicker guys. But the games aren’t played on paper. They are played on the court.”

Jones’ eighth double-double of the season combined with Richard Hamilton’s 33 points and Jordan’s 25 to put the Wizards five games above .500 their best record at the All-Star break in 23 years. They have won five straight, and their 26-21 record is a 14-win improvement over 12-35 after 47 games a year ago.

Pistons 105, Clippers 92

Auburn Hills, Mich. Reserves Damon Jones and Corliss Williamson each scored 15 points as Detroit beat the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth time in nine games at the Palace. The Pistons’ reserves outscored the Clippers’ subs 49-24.

Sixers 100, Hornets 93

Charlotte, N.C. Allen Iverson scored 36 points, including two late driving baskets, to lead Philadelphia past Charlotte. Matt Harpring added 16 points to help the Sixers improve to 25-24 and end a two-game losing streak. Baron Davis led the Hornets with 23 points, and Lee Nailon had 18.

Bucks 107, Grizzlies 103

Milwaukee Sam Cassell had 29 points and 10 assists just hours after signing a three-year, $17 million extension, and Milwaukee snapped a two-game losing streak with a victory over Memphis. Ray Allen also scored 29 points for Milwaukee.

Knicks 92, Hawks 89

New York Allan Houston scored 32 points, including a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left, to lead New York. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 29 points, 21 in the second half, for Atlanta. Jason Terry added 25.

Raptors 80, Spurs 74, OT

Toronto Keon Clark scored six of his 17 points in overtime as Toronto overcame the loss of Vince Carter, who left the game late in the second quarter with a right quadriceps strain and did not return. Alvin Williams shot 5-for-6 from the foul line in overtime for the Raptors.
