Florence Garber

A remembrance time for Florence Garber, 99, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Good Samaritan Room in Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. No funeral services are planned.

Mrs. Garber died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Jan. 15, 1903, in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Nettie Jane (King) Smith. She was in the first graduating class at Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence. She attended Emporia State Teacher’s College.

Mrs. Garber taught at rural schools in Douglas County and then was a homemaker.

She married Otto H. Garber on Aug. 17, 1932, at her parents’ home in the Bethel community. He died July 1, 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Netti Biggs, Overland Park; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, Douglas County Hospice or Watkins Community Museum of History, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
