Olympic security: Man gets 30 days in jail

? A man who jumped a security fence at the Olympic Village pleaded guilty to trespassing and was sentenced to 30 days in jail Friday.

Sheldon Iver Goodman also was ordered to pay $2,500 and serve two years’ probation.

Secret Service agents caught him on Jan. 27 inside the athletes’ village on the Utah campus after he set off a motion sensor. He told police he was just taking a shortcut.

The 48-year-old Goodman acknowledged in court Friday that he knew access was restricted and that signs were posted on a fence around the area. He added, however, that there was no sign at the spot he entered the village.

Goodman has been arrested on trespassing charges several times in the past six years. His lawyer said most of them stemmed from Goodman’s attempts to find a place to sleep at night, although prosecutors said he is not homeless.
