NBA Roundup: Wizards thump Hawks

? Michael Jordan had 28 points and eight assists Friday night as the Washington Wizards survived a fourth-quarter rally to beat Atlanta 97-90, handing the Hawks their sixth straight loss.

The Wizards took the lead for good four minutes into the game and were up by 14 in the second quarter, but they were never able to put the Hawks away.

Jordan shot 10-of-24 from the field and 8-of-10 on free throws in 38 minutes. He also rejected DerMarr Johnson’s fast-break layup some 40 feet into the expensive seats late in the first half.

Pacers 92, Knicks 87

Indianapolis Reggie Miller scored 20 points and Jermaine O’Neal and Jonathan Bender each had 18 as Indiana snapped the Knicks’ four-game winning streak.

Heat 88, Spurs 83

Miami Rod Strickland sank his second 3-pointer of the season with 2:07 left to put Miami ahead to stay, and the Heat beat the slumping Spurs. Miami, trying to recover from a 2-14 start, won for the ninth time in 11 games.

Celtics 95, OT

Boston Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 15 rebounds and Terrell Brandon added 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as Minnesota ended its four-game losing streak. Minnesota won for the fourth straight time at the FleetCenter. The Celtics dropped their third straight, their first three-game losing streak since Nov. 17-24. Boston hasn’t beaten the T’Wolves since Jan. 2, 1998. Garnett had a chance to win the game in regulation, but missed a 15-footer as time expired. Brandon and Chauncey Billups each hit layups to give Minnesota a 89-85 lead in overtime before Paul Pierce’s three-point play cut it to 89-88.

Lakers 100, Grizzlies 85

Memphis, Tenn. Shaquille O’Neal scored 26 points as the Los Angeles Lakers rallied from a nine-point deficit late in the third quarter and beat the Grizzlies for Phil Jackson’s 700th victory as an NBA coach. The Grizzlies looked ready to upset the two-time defending champions for the second time in Memphis as they led after each of the first three quarters. Kobe Bryant started the Lakers on a 38-8 run.

Magic 85, Pistons 83

Auburn Hills, Mich. Tracy McGrady made a shot from just inside the 3-point line with 1.8 seconds left. Jerry Stackhouse had a chance to tie it, but hit the side of the backboard on an off-balance shot from the baseline as time expired. Mike Miller scored 18 points to lead the Magic.

Hornets 73, Rockets 72

Houston Lee Nailon hit a 20-foot jumper as time expired to give Charlotte a victory over Houston.

Suns 104, Warriors 98

Phoenix Stephon Marbury had 20 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds and Jake Tsakalidis matched his career-high with 17 points as Phoenix beat Golden State.

Kings 132, Nuggets 96

Sacramento, Calif. Chris Webber had 29 points and 12 rebounds as Sacramento cruised past Denver. The victory was the third in a row and 15th in 16 games for the Kings. Raef LaFrentz had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Denver, which has lost 10 straight at Arco Arena.
