William F. Leib

Mr. Leib died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Midland Hospice Care, Topeka.

He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Longmont, Colo., the son of Perry K. and Margurite (Fairchild) Leib.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a tech 4 with the 183 Field Artillery Headquarters Battery at the Battle of the Bulge.

From 1952 to 1964 he worked at Star Grain & Lumber in Waverly. From 1964 to 1968 he worked at Logan-Moore Lumber in Lawrence. He was part owner of CMI Lumber from 1970 to 1982, when he went to work at Owen Lumber in Belton, Mo.

Mr. Leib was a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 in Lawrence.

He married Bette Jean Miller on Jan. 10, 1943, in Wellsville. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Debbie Jo Sump, Ottawa; three sons, Billy L., Ottawa, Michael K., Lawrence, and Steven R., Moscow, Idaho; a brother, Robert I., Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the American Legion or to Midland Hospice House, sent in care of the mortuary.
