Swoopes named MVP

? Houston Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes was selected the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player on Tuesday, winning the award for the second time in three years.

“Never did I think I’d be able to come back this season and accomplish the things I’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time,” Swoopes said. “I thought it would take me a full season to come back and be at 100 percent.”

Swoopes, the leading vote-getter for this season’s All-Star game, led the Comets to the playoffs for the sixth straight year the only WNBA team to play in the postseason every season. Houston won the first four league championships.

The Comets were eliminated by the Utah Starzz on Tuesday night, losing 75-72 in Game 3 of the first round. The Starzz advanced to play the Los Angeles Sparks in the conference final.
