Injury accidents

A rural Lawrence teenager suffered minor injuries Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision south of Lawrence. Kelli Marie Ambrose, 16, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the accident, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and County Road 458. Ambrose was stopped at a stop sign facing east and waiting to cross the highway in a 1993 Ford Tempo, when a 1993 Hyundai Sonata driven by Baldwin resident Soanya Charles, 16, approached the intersection on U.S. 59 from the north, Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. Kathy Tate said. Charles had on her turn signal but apparently changed her mind at the last minute, turned off her turn signal and continued southbound on the highway, Tate said. Believing that Charles was going to turn, Ambrose pulled into the intersection and struck the Sonata, Tate said. She was cited for failure to yield right of way, Tate said. Ambrose was taken by ambulance to LMH, where she was treated and released.

Condition reports

Richard Diers, 1223 N. 100 Road, Baldwin, was released Sunday from KU Med, Kansas City, Kan., where he was taken July 11 by helicopter after falling off a horse.
